In many communities, one of the greatest hurdles kids face to playing and continuing in sport is a lack of equipment; a pair of cleats to call their own, a ball to kick around. Provide uniforms and they become a team, instilling in them a sense of unity, pride, and belonging.

Based in Massachusetts, Second Half Sport Foundation connects with families and Soccer Clubs throughout the North East to acquire gently used equipment, footwear, and apparel. The donations are sorted, cleaned and shipped to Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. SHSF has partnered with The Hearts and Minds Foundation, the community outreach arm of the T&T Police Service. Hearts and Minds helps kids go from the sidelines to being a part of a team by furnishing them with the tools of the sport, and the opportunities they had been missing. Hearts and Minds hosts leagues, tournaments, and coaching clinics, providing mentorship and a safe place for kids in many of T&T’s underserved and at-risk communities

 

By partnering with The Hearts and Minds Foundation to manage and further distribute equipment to such clubs and facilities the outcomes go well beyond the equipment’s residual value.
